Fontucky, as we affectionately call it... This year's race weekend can be summed up as high wind drama, Tommy Hayden's first Superbike win, a kinder, friendlier DMG/AMA, and great racing. Wind gusts of up to 50mph, not that far off from the inaugural Indy MotoGP race, shut on track action down until the afternoon. Fortunately, the wind died down enough and they were able to secure the air fences and we were able to get all the races underway. Instead of hurry up and wait it was wait and hurry up...which makes things interesting fast, but for a photographer the silver lining was later races meant better light.

The highlight for me was Tommy Hayden's maiden Superbike win. Been documenting the Haydens for quite a few years now...So happy to see Tommy get that win and end all the "when you gonna get that first sbk win" questions. If I had a crystal ball I'm sure it'd predict many more wins this season.

Even though only two rounds are in the books, I have to say what a difference a year makes. The morale in the paddock is much better. What I like the best about the new management is the focus on safety is back. A year ago when there was rain in the morning at Fontana, the position was we don't care what you say you're racing. This year with the wind, the position was if it's not safe we won't race, but we are hoping to get the races in and we are looking at different scenarios to get all the races in this weekend. There seems to be a lot of positive shifts in the right direction. Add to that great racing, makes this season so much more enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to Road Atlanta, one of my favorite tracks to shoot here in the US. Until then... Hope you guys enjoy my favorite photos from Fontana.
